MAC Makeup Company

Usually Tuesday’s are dedicated to fashion icons, but we are going to switch it up this week by talking about a specific makeup company, MAC. This happens to be a popular makeup company that started in Toronto, Canada in 1984. This company was founded by both Frank Toskan and Frank Angelo.

This company was created due to Frank Toskan’s experience as a makeup artist and photographer. He realized that there was a sad collection of colors and textures in the makeup industry during his time. Due to these limitations, performance and results of makeup companies were not responding well with the modern day woman. He, and his family, decided that it was time to create a brand that was “by makeup artist for makeup artist”. Thus the brand MAC was brought into the world.

MAC catered to the need of makeup artist and woman everywhere. It introduced a variety of vivid and rich colors for every skin tone, and cultivated the retail and fashion markets. Therefore created many long lasting trends that are used today. Due to it success, the brand expanded into New York, and not long after into many other major areas in North America. Even today, it is world wide and still setting makeup trends for the fashion industry while catering to the needs of modern women in the retail market.

Fashion Trend: What Do We Have Cooking?

maxresdefault

Fashion trends incorporate many things that are common around the house, from feathers to pearls there is always something new in the world of makeup. The trend that is popular right now in the makeup is foiled lips. Now  by foil we do not mean tinfoil that you use to cook with. But foil flakes or metallic powder is this look created.

Why did this look become so popular? Well it rocked New York Fashion Week and still continues to grace many runways from around the world. Meaning that this trend will be here for a while because it is breaking metallic makeup barriers and introducing a whole knew fashion look. MAC cosmetics and many other companies are following this trend and incorporating it into their own new products which are gracing the makeup markets. So if you see more metallic lipsticks out in your local Walmart or in specialty makeup stores, know you know why. Its because the makeup companies, youtubers, and fashion gurus are all jumping of the foil lip bandwagon this 2019 Fashion Season.

Foil-Lips

To get this look is not hard! Its three easy steps.

1.) Take your nude lip liner and lines your lips (defining a clear shape)

2.) Next a glittery and shiny lip gloss that will act as an adhesive for the next step

3.) Take a super loose pigmented powder and apply it to the lips

Then Voila! You have created your own metallic lip look. A quick, easy, and fun trend that even you can do yourself at home. But not all foil lips are powder or flakes. Of course there is foil paper that is made to be pressed against the lips after they have some type of adhesive lip gloss on, and it gives off the same look. Either way, metallic foil lips are staking their own claim to fame in the Fashion World.

The Fashion Revolutionist Christian Dior

Christian Dior was born on January 21st, 1905 in Northern France as the second of five children whose father was a successful fertilizer manufacturer. He always loved architecture and planned to study that in school, but due to family wishes he studied political science at Ecole des Sciences Politques in 1925. When he graduated in 1928, he father lent him money to open up an art gallery as long as their family name was not tied to it, therefore the DIOR Gallery came into existence. In 1931, he was forced to close the gallery.

To make ends meet, Christian Dior began selling his fashion sketches. Through this, he landed a job illustrating the magazine called Figaro Illustre. Several years later, he was hired as a design assistant by Robert Piguet. Shortly, he resigned in order to enter the army as an Officer during World War II but returned to Paris in 1940. Soon after returning he was hired by Couturier Lucien Lelong.

The 16th of December 1946, Dior was able to found his own Fashion House due to the backing of French Entrepreneur Marcel Boussac. In 1947, Dior exploded onto the Paris Fashion scene during wartime and reintroduced a focus on women’s fashion. He came up with a new look which consisted of small shoulders, cinched waists, and volumous skirts with lower neck hemlines. Here are just a few of the revolutionized lines Dior created to change women’s fashion:

  • 1950- Oblique Line
  • 1951- Oval Line and Envol Line
  • 1952- The Princess Line and Profile Line
  • 1954- The H-Line
  • 1955- The A-Line and Y-Line

“As a designer, I have to follow the rules and Principles of Architecture and respect the Law of Gravity.” -Christian Dior

Through his designs, Dior helped re-establish Paris as the centre of the fashion world Post-war. He designed for the world’s most elegant and fashionable women of his time, including the entire wardrobe for Marlene Dietrich for Alfred Hancock’s “Stage Fright”, and the Duchess of Windsor. In 1957, he was the first designer to be featured on the cover of TIMES Magazine.

On October 23rd, 1957, Christian Dior dies at the age of 52 in Montecatini, Italy. His funeral was attended by an estimated 2,500 people (including all of his staff and some of the celebrities he designed for). Upon his death, his assistant Yves Saint Laurent took over his couture house, and the succeeded by Marcel Boussac. In 1984, the fashion house was bought by Bernard Arnault and Gianfranco Fevre was appointed as Artistic Director. The house held on to its reputation and even designed Her Majesty Farah Pahlavi’s coronation dress and the outfit Marilyn Monroe wore for her last photoshoot.

Christian Dior was a master of shapes and silhouettes. He turned the traditional feeling of couture upside down. He helped propel a fashion and social revolution. Dior’s success was based on the innovation of both his designs and his business practices. Thus making him the most successful fashion designer in the world.

Fashion Trend: The Bird look is IN?

Fashion trends come in all styles, and sometimes they come in the form of feathers. That’s right I said feathers as in came off a bird or as synthetic fibers shaped in the form of feathers. Now I know you might not think that this is a trend that would be in, but why not? How is it any different from wearing animal print clothes or fake fur jackets? It’s not.

This trend is not a new one either. In the 1920’s feather boa’s and feather fringes at the bottom of dresses are key for the 1920’s style of flappers clothing. So are flapper dresses and styles coming back? No, well not that we have noticed, but feathers have definitely stirred up buz on the fashion scene.

The company that has always showed off this fashion trend is none other than Victoria Secrets. Hello, they are Angels, and there can’t be Angels without wings made of feathers. Victoria Secrets have definitely monopolized the feather trend the longest, but other fashionable designers and companies have also caught on to this trend. You can see feathers in daily cloths, on the runway, and even on the red carpet.

Feathers add a bit of texture to the simplest of outfits. Just a touch can turn an ordinary sun dress into an elegant date dress. Or turn a normal set of heels into a show stopping foot accessory that you can’t live without. And of course one can’t forget the feather earing that every woman has at least one pair of. No matter how you wear it, it will turn your outfits into one that even birds would be envious of. Sounds like a trend one should fly on board with for the 2019 fashion year.
