The Fendi’s

fendi

Everyone knows of the Fendi brand, especially since the designer of its fashion house Karl Lagerfeld recently passed away this year. But how did Fendi get it’s start. Most fashion houses or company’s are found by a singular person or a group of people with a collective idea or vision for designing and creating clothes. The Fendi house was no different.

Adele Casagrande is the original creator and founder of Fendi. She was morn in Milano, Italy in 1897 and began to design at a young age. In 1918 she opened up her first workshop which worked with leather and fur in Via del Plebiscito, Central Rome. It was not named Fendi at the time, it became Fendi in 1925. This is the year that Adele married her husband Edoardo Fendi. In honor of their marriage and family, she renamed her brand Fendi. Their family grew and so did their company.

The Fendi’s had 5 daughters ( Paola, Anna, Franca, Carla and Alda), and when they came of to the age where they can work, they all went to work for their families company. During this time, the Fendi’s opened multiple shops and began to expand outside of the fur and leather business. In 1954, Edoardo Fendi died, after this the ddaughter took over the company and expanded it even more. The started with Fendi’s first every fur coat line. In 1965, Fendi and Lagerfeld became a family through marriage, and this proves to be a good move for he created their double FF logo and many other things that helped benefit the Fendi Brand and Company. The children of the 5 daughter even went on to be directors of the Fendi Company, and created a younger line called Fendissime. Thus proving how creative this family and its designs are for it to be loved through the generations and to be expanding even now.

A Little Sequins Goes A Long Way

Fashion trends aren’t always new and exciting things, sometimes they are subtle shifts that take place over time and become more popular and prominent as the generations change. One trend that has always been front an center when it came to the night time scene is none other than sequins. We attribute this design detail to clubbing and partying cloths, anywhere someone needs to shine like a disco ball really. But did you know that sequins have started to become a High Fashion Runway trend as well?

That’s right! The sequined dress that the public wears to the club is not making it debut as High Fashion. Sequins are a great detail to add to clothing in order to achieve a sparkly look without having to use glitter. Now I’m all for glitter (especially glitter bombs) but let’s be honest, none of us wants a glitter outfit that leaves sparkles everywhere. It takes forever to get out of wherever it decides to rub onto, and it makes us look like we are fairies because it leaves an obvious trail on the ground.

Fashion-Trend-Sequins

Are there any problem with this fashion trend? Well every trend has its ups and downs. One of the downs of wearing sequins is that they are itchy and uncomfortable against bare skin. This is why most designers are trying to find ways to limit the uncomfortableness of sequins by matching them with outfits that are made out of certain materials and are certain cuts that let the public enjoy sequins without the irritation.

Sequins are taking over the fashion scene as feathers took over the shoe scene. Let’s see what unique and everyday collections comes out of this old, yet new, fabulous trend!

Model Essential #5

Tip 5: Practice in High Heels

high heels tip

Now I know that this sounds like a simple and common sense kind of model tip. But it is very important. Heels are an extension of the Model and should look like so on the runway. No matter shape, size, or height! So strap on your heels and get to walking…..literally walking like everywhere at any and every time.

Fancy A Pair of Red Bottoms?

We all know and love the famous Red Bottoms Louboutin heels. They are iconic and perfect for any and all occasions (unless its sports related). How did these legendary shoes come to be? Who is the mind behind the design?

Louboutin’s were created and founded by Christian Louboutin himself. He was born in Paris, France in 1963. He was the youngest child of 4 (and the only son) born to a cabinet maker and a stay-at-home mother. He had little interest in school, and often found himself expelled or in some kind of trouble. Therefore he spent a lot of time with his mother and three sisters.

Christian Louboutin was not originally planning on being a shoe designer, but inspiration truck one day while on a school field trip to a museum. There he recognized a sign that forbade African Women from wearing high heels. When asked about this original inspiration, he said the following:

“I wanted to defy that. I wanted to create something that broke rules and made women feel confident and empowered.” – Christian Louboutin

This was the beginning of his legacy.

Not long after this, he was expelled from school for the last time at the age of 16. With nothing left but inspiration and designs for women’s high heels, he landed a job working for a Parisian Cabaret called Folies Bergere. Here he had many jobs, one which included making shoes specifically for the dancers. This job helped Christian Louboutin land a job with Charles Jourdan in the early 1980’s, where he began to learn the in’s and out’s of the shoe industry.

first shop

In the early 1990’s, Christian Louboutin was able to set up his own shop in Paris. The first shoes that he designed were inspired by the famous image of Princess Diana in 1992, the one in which she is in India in front of the Taj Mahal. He created a pair of suede pumps with the word “LOVE” written in his signature. The “LO” was on the left foot, and the “VE” was on the right foot.

When asked about why he created these shoes and how he was inspires he said the following:

“I remember the picture at the time of Princess Diana, and she was looking at her feet and I thought she looked so sad….It would be nice to have something to make her smile, when she looked at her feet.” – Christian Louboutin

Not long after this, in 1993 the infamous red soles of Louboutin heels was created and introduced to the world. He was inspired by his assistant who was painting her nails red. These famed red bottom heels were only supposed to last for one season. But they were a huge success with customers, and they pleaded to keep the red soles, and so he made them his trademark.

These shoes attracted Princess Caroline of Monaco, and even Madonna wore some of his more dangerous heels in her music videos. Thus helping introduce the world to the fabulous heels of Christian Louboutin. When asked about where his inspiration for all his magnificent designs come from, this is what he had to say:

“For inspiration, I often imagine a courtesan living out her life in a circus.” -Christian Louboutin

Women’s footwear is not the only thing the Christian Louboutin and his company has created. In 2003, he created a line of handbags; in 2011, a men’s shoe line appeared; and after 2011 he created  a nail polish, fragrance, and lipstick line.

After Christian Louboutin’s first year of business, he sold over 200 pairs of shoes. Now a pair of his heels ranges between $400 to $6,000 dollars, ad sells more than 500,000 pairs of shoes each year. He is one of the most successful shoe designers in the world, and has shops all over with interior that he himself designed.

No wonder Red Bottom Louboutin’s are so fashion forward and a must have for all fashion A-listers!

Airy Heels Take Fashion to New Heights

We’ve already talked about feathered fashions that have started taking the Fashion World by storm. But lets look a little deeper into one specific feathered apparel trend that even celebrities have started implementing into their everyday outfits, feathered shoes; yet more specifically, feathered heels.

Feathers have become the embellishment of choice for many designers for the Spring Season of 2019. Its no wonder why, its an easy way to spice up even the minimalist of outfits. No matter what you pair it with, they add a little 1920’s flare. Many brands like Staud, Dries Van Noten, Miu Miu, and Prada have all added feathers to their apparels, very exuberant.

Dries Van Noten had feathers show up in a bunch of colors and lengths in his runway show. Prabal Gurung’s models even had plumage on their heels in a colorful selection of footwear. Valentino also jumped on this trends bandwagon and had his models wore chunky slides with matching plumes affixed to the back.

Either way, this is a trend that even us regular folks can jump on board with.

UNCUT’19 Fashion Show

FB_IMG_1554416617608 (1)

Its Fashion Show season and the Bellah Laddies ripped the runway last night in the UNCUT’19 Fashion Show. The designers, designs, models, and energy was spectacular and another good show under the 2019 Fashion Season’s belt. It you missed this show than you missed something good. The models all arrived early and your truly was there to catch all the before, during, and after action.

Even though all the models weren’t from Bellah, they were all fantastic on and off the runway. Before the show everyone grouped together backstage to help get hair and makeup done. And of course I snuck off to get food (can you blame me? I was hungry and there was a pizza shop next door! Lol.). There was a lot of cutting up, comradery, and over all good vibes before the show even started. These good feelings and high energies continued on through the show, and I have to say I really enjoyed talking to the models and the designers.

It really was a fun and special show.
